FAQ - PACKING

  1. Which file cabinets have to be packed and which file cabinets can be moved loaded?
  2. What should be packed in boxes and what should be labeled for carts?
  3. How do we pack and prepare bookcases?
  4. Do we have to empty and pack our desks?

Which file cabinets have to be packed and which file cabinets can be moved loaded?
Vertical file cabinets can be moved loaded, unless your move involves stairs, in which case they must be completely packed. Lateral file cabinets can be moved with the bottom 2 drawers loaded. All other drawers should be packed. For instance if you have a 5-drawer lateral file the top 3 drawers should be packed. The main purpose is to prevent damage to the cabinet. If file cabinets are bolted together they should be unlocked prior to moving.

What should be packed in boxes and what should be labeled for carts?
The general rule of thumb is that if it can fit into a carton, it should be packed. This includes in/out trays, adding machines, radios and other common office items.

How do we pack and prepare bookcases?
All bookcases need to be completely emptied packed and labeled to be moved. If the individual shelves are held using "pins," it is a good idea to remove the shelves and place at the bottom of the bookcase. The pins should be placed in a plastic bag and taped to the inside of the bookcase.

Do we have to empty and pack our desks?
It is recommended that you completely pack your desk. Each desk is turned on its side and moved on a dolly. In particular loose items such as paper clips will make a mess.
